Six sculptures inspired by the history of the village and stories that have emerged from community workshops will be sited on buildings in Waddington along the heritage trail. The series of sculptures is entitled ‘Emblems’ - as with emblems, each of the sculptures refers to something that is perhaps known about Waddington but is either unseen or hidden. "Simon Grennan commented “We work all over the world and haven’t had a better welcome than in Waddington. In the process of making ‘Emblems’, people of all ages and life experiences contributed almost 500 drawings, showing significant and favourite aspects of their lives. Cited on the Heritage Trail, the new sculptures will create a link between past and present in the village.” All of the artworks, as well as interesting facts and historical information about the village, are covered in a new Waddington Heritage Trail guide, which has been written by Ridges & Furrows project historian Dave Reeves. The guides will be available ready for a celebratory launch event taking place on Sunday 22 July.
The Waddington Trail forms part of the Ridges & Furrows Arts & Heritage Trail, which extends from The National Centre for Craft & Design in Sleaford to Whisby Nature Park, travelling along the Lincoln Edge and visiting numerous villages and places of interest along the way.
